Free Portable Air Conditioners for Low-Income Seniors

Applications period May 26 to June 6, 2025

The City of Toronto is launching a pilot program to help low-income seniors stay cool during extreme heat events. Eligible seniors can apply to receive a free portable air conditioner.

Who is Eligible?

  • Age 65 or older
  • Live in an apartment building
  • Resident of Toronto
  • Low income
  • Health-related need for cooling (self-identified – no doctor’s note required)

How to Apply

Applications will be accepted from May 26 to June 6, 2025.

You can apply in one of three ways:

  • By phone: Call the City of Toronto at 416-397-2220
  • Online: Visit toronto.ca/ACProgram
  • In person: Visit a designated Toronto location (see the City’s website for full details)

Why This Matters

Extreme heat poses serious health risks, especially for older adults. Many seniors live in apartments without central air conditioning and face financial and accessibility barriers. This program helps ensure seniors can remain safe and comfortable at home.
